Engineered Wood Flooring

Originally known as Veneer Flooring, engineered wood flooring is a very popular choice because it gives the look of wood flooring but at a lower cost than solid wood.

Engineered wood flooring comprises three layers:

  • A thin top layer of natural wood
  • A middle layer of softwood strips
  • A backing layer

The top layer is coated with lacquer or oil to cope with the demands of normal wear. It can be renovated and sanded several times, giving your floor a long life.

This type of flooring was originally known as veneer, referring to the thin top layer of wood. It is hard-wearing and long-lasting.

Engineered wood flooring can be installed on surfaces which are unsuitable for solid wood flooring as it is free floated rather than nailed or glued to the sub-floor.
